some of you may have heard about the 1402 Urena (1725 harp x 991 urena). it was on display at a san francisco restaurant. someone cut into the pumpkin and took ALL but 2 of the seeds. this was not vandalism, these folks knew just what they wanted . the seeds! this story made the SF news (channel 7). if anyone hears of someone selling seeds that could be the seeds from this pumpkin please let us know. and BE CAREFUL where you let your pumpkins be on display! thanks, cindi and pete

Thanks for the heads-up Pete and Cindi. Mine was on display at Lowe's for two weeks in October, but the pumpkin was taken in each night. This should serve as a warning to ANYONE who is kind enough to donate a pumpkin for display. Make sure it is secure each night.

That's because the reporters talk about $1,000 a seed. The thiefs don't realize this...is only in the right hands.I am sure they will soon find out they are not worth anything..and discard them. I am positive this is what happened to my seed collection

That's a shame. Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully one of the 2 seeds salvaged produces a monster for leonardo as redemption and the genetics still get passed along.

Unbeleivable..... Leonardo, so sorry to hear about this with your graciousness to display it. That has got to hurt. I know I displayed mine at a local grocery store, they caught the BOY SCOUTS on camera, of all people, jamming Dr Pepper bottles thru the pumpkin....repeatidly until all the way thru it..... It went down soon after and they didnt have anything to display or enjoy. I wont do that with them again.! I hope they catch them Leo...I really do.....

Cindi, maybe someone should make a post on CL in your area with a "WTB: seeds from the 1402 Urena giant pumpkin" and set up a little sting operation? Just a thought, criminals aren't always the brightest bulbs in the chandelier...

Some dumbass is likely trying to figure out why the shells are so thick when they chew them.
Wonder if they choked to death?
