I am beginning to plan the 2007 Virtual Weigh-off (VWO) and need some thoughts and feedback.

I only have 5 growers who will at least donate 100 seeds from one of their pumpkins to include in the VWO seed package. If anyone is interested in possibly getting their seed grown by hopefully a lot of growers, please send me an email at admin@pumpkinpost.com

Some of my thoughts include (please comment on them):

-depending on the amount of seeds I receive, I can bunch them all together (1 seed of each) into a package or the grower will be able to select individually up to a certain amount.
-A $20 entrance fee where $10 would be given back to say the top 3 winners, $5 would be donated to the GPC and $5 would cover postage, shipping packs, etc
-A higher entrance fee?
-No entrance fee, just the cost of shipping / packaging
-Money or seed donations to include in the prize package
-Growers will need to submit their diaries on BIGP weekly
-Ribbons for the winners
-Grow only 1 seed for a genetic project

I need your thoughts……..thanks, Ray Leonzi

I've really enjoyed this contest for several years and it is an excellent way to get top genetic seeds. The comparisons that are made weekly against your competitors from around the world is exhilarating.

My thoughts
6 seeds in the package 4 pumpkins 2 squash, voted on by BP growers.
No entrance fee $5.00 S/H
Weekly entrance in BP

Prizes
Seed donations but I would like to see some of the heavy hitters promise a 2007 seed exchange to the top three winners. We also probally could get some growing products donated for this cause.

Prizes could also be something local and unique from the entrants. We all a very creative in thinking up good swaps.

I don't think a entrance fee is a good thing. Money sometimes sours the fun had.

Bill what do you guys make in Minnesota besides Lefse?

$10.00 entrance fee that would cover everything.Ribbons to the top five winners. Cost of shipping and package for the seeds. Money and seeds to the top five winners. Growers will have to place a weekly up date.

I dont think I'll do the VWO this year, but have done two in the past. My opinions are as follows:

i dont like the idea of an entrance fee.
i would have never entered the VWO in the past if it involved paying.

disqualifications for falsification of "weekly updates" ......hemmmm *BEACHY*......OK maybe a rule that the cheaters should pay $10 for ruining the fun and making a joke out of it. ;)

I only did the VWO one year(and received a 1058 Papez for my troubles) but I liked the whole idea of it being a "for free" +cost of s/h for seeds. I also liked having a selction of a few seeds, I think it was four pumpkin, 1 squash, I can't remember exactly but to me that is the way I liked it. Mind you if a ten dollar fee was charged to cover some admin costs and ribbons I would still be in with no moaning from me.
