how can a selfed 935 Lloyd grow a pure greenie? Kinda like the 724 Willemse chucking out a pure squash I guess. Is it a result of the self-pollination? Does anyone know of other pure squash which came from lines that have been pumpkins for many generations?

Is it in color, true recessive and dominant genes. I have seen dark green(ex: 856 Hester) throw nice orange. Has there been a true dark aronge pumpkin throw an all green squash-not squmpkins.

Does the 977 Andersen count as a "pumpkin"? Well, that was a yellow-green one wasn't it?
My 856 Hester this year threw the most beautiful dark-orange pumpkin this year, just like Kenny's.

the 977 was grown from the 1006 Greer and self pollinated, the 1006 was off the 697 Ciliberto and pollinated with the 680 Dill, the 697 was a 722 Holland x 502.5* Ciliberto. The 502.5* was a squash (notice the *), which is where a dominant recessive gene is present in the 977, and of coarse the 815 (697 x 1006) Anderson which grew the 535 Wolf and 879 Rockwell. When inbreding occours dominant recessive genes can become amplified just like any other gene in the pumpkin. These dominant recessive genes are what cause pumpkin or squash seeds to produce both pumpkin and squash.

502 was a pumpkin....from a pumpkin and pollinated by a 821stellpflug squash. 502 throws pkns and squash.

The research I am compiling seems to indicate that selfing reduces the gene pool possibilities and brings out the stronger genes "Squash". The more selfing in the fruits family tree the stronger the possibility of throwing up a dominate gene, usually "Squash".

when you self a seed it divides the possibility of gene alignments by half.
