I'm making this post cause I think the potential of sib and self-pollination fruit will become and is becoming apparent finally. I think in the past people have shyed away from growing seeds sib and self-pollinated fruit. I know back in the mid 90's articles were written talking about the downside of growing seeds from self-pollinated pumpkins...words like recessive genes were used. At the time I didn't really know what that meant, but anything that is recessive can't be good? or can it? The word is obviously misleading since it refers to expression of traits and not what the trait is. A recessive trait could be 'good'. Anyway I think people have generally shyed away from growing these seeds for reasons like this. Self-pollination and sib type pollinations were a very important part of the 935 Lloyd's development. I think people will be more willing to grow self and sibbed seeds now since the 735 Pukos has become hot, and also the 1097.5 Beachy did well, and also the squash world is based on lots of self and sib pollinations and despite being undergrown, is doing pretty well. I think it's cool that 674.5 waterman genes were all that was needed to grow a 962 too. haha enough rambling

naaahhh, i don't think it's rambling----the 962 and the 1056 Ruff were both accomplished with nothing but self-pollinations. what my question will be and what i hope to find out eventually is how many times it takes to grow a monster pumpkin from seeds that are the result(s) of several years of self-pollination. it appears to be about 3 so far. plus or minus 1. lol. i am playing with 1140 selfed and 801 Black selfed at the moment, the 801 Black X self being the cross of my 526 Gerry '02, and then i selfed that this past season. so, we'll see. if you are interested in seeds such as this, and would like to see my seed list(s) from '01, '02, and '03, email me privately.
