What are the top five or six pumpkins that should be in my pumpkins family tree when deciding on what seed to plant to obtain a large heavy pumpkin? I'm going for the heaviest pumpkin I can get, if by some chance orange, pretty and round happens to appear, fine, but it's the weight that I'm after. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Tahnk you, Mark G.

To start with look for 723 Bobier, 845 Bobier, 898 Knauss and 846 Calai in their backgrounds. The only seed in the all time Top 20 that doesn't have atleast one of these seeds in its background is the 582 Hester. The other 19 seeds are either one of those 4 or have atleast one of them in their family tree. Many of them are direct crosses of two of them.
For example the new #1 seed is the 1068 Wallace(845 Bobier x 898 Knauss), the #2 seed is the 723 Bobier, the #3 seed is the 842 Eaton(846 Calai x 723 Bobier).
I hope that helps and isn't too basic to answer your question.

Burrhead, if you're coming to Marion from I-69, you can find my patch. I live right off the Marion exit about half a mile. Now all I have to do is grow some big pumpkins for you to see...no pressure. I got your e-mail address so I'll e-mail you and we'll discuss this more.
