I really like this one has awesome color with great shape,I think you will change your mind when you see this beast, and it was a no care plant to boot. Marty liked it alot and said he would have grown it if it had seeds.

I thank the cook for posting this question. it brings to the front an award that gets harder and harder to present yearly. Prettiest pumpkin? just about as many opinions as there are pictures. Remember beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It is for this reason and to also reward more growers for growing that orange beauty that the GPC has scrapped the one time voted on single prettiest pumpkn award and instead elected to go with a very large and pretty ribbon named appropriately " the Howard Dill Prettiest Pumpkin Award " Each gpc site LEVEL 200 OR 300 will get this ribbon in with their site awardS package.
How you give out the award is your business, a vote by inspectors, a vote by the growers themselves, ( i like this one best, it gives all growers a voice in the matter )or, a show of hands from the audience.
also ---- we will award the grower who has the heaviest true pumpkin with a plaque just as is the case with our yearly Champions Plaque. The plaque will be called the " Hugh Wiberg award". Hugh you may recall served many years on the GPC executive committee and also administrated the NEGPGA for many years, retiriing three years ago because of declining health. Im very proud that we could name this award after Hugh. He was a true leader . one who treated everyone fairly and always quick with a compliment. His wife Barbara i might also add was a class act herself. Tirelessly working for the GPC and MA. site

Your average Joe, when picturing a perfect looking pumpkin, most likely has the image of a Howden or a Conn. Field in their mind. The thing is, we're not growing those types. They are Atlantic Giants (Giants being the key word). Size should matter....I think that when judging for best looking, most beautiful, prettiest, whatever you want to call it, there should be 3 key factors. Color, Shape (also looking at the ribs of the pumpkin), AND Size. These being Atlantic Giants, size should be just as much as a key point to beauty as size and color. In my opinion, from all of the '06's that Ive seen so far, the 672Huffer looks the most like a Howden or a Conn. Field. Compare the 672 to the 1099Clark. Both have GREAT shape, I think the 672 beats the 1099 in color (stronger and smoother orange), but when it comes to size, this is a no brainer. The 1099 tops the 672 by 427 pounds. Thats 61% heavier. If I were a judge at this beauty pagent, the Clark would wear the sash. Now, those two would make one hell of a cross, dont ya think?

Everyone has their own opinion of what the term "beautiful" is. It pleases me that we (the GPC) have decided to get away from this very subjective category.
The 2006 Howard Dill Award did take, color, shape & size into consideration. Hence the decision was very difficult.
Here is the 624 Manuel 2006:

Bill Northrup grew a nice pumpkin this year, the 982 Northrup. It is 1101 X 810 Dill. This is 3 generations 810 Dill! The pumpkin was beautiful shape and colour and 5.13% heavy. Although paps origingal question was about proven seeds, I think this pumpkin may ne one to watch and is on my short list as well! John

We might never have "heaviest" fruit from where we grow so we'll try "prettiest" this year.
I'm with Steve. If I had a 500 Northrup I'd grow it for sure. Every progeny is nearly the same red/orange color at the 772.2 Porier & 624 Manuel. Both stunning.
I'm not knocking any of the other beautiful orange fruit from '06. This one just seems to be the darkest most even color producer right now.

Are you an AGGC member? If so navigate to the 500 Northrup & use the "Options" drop down to view "Family Portrait".
I find it curious that most of the true orange fruit have very similar hierarchies yet some still exhibit different colors.
