Lets say you were planting a fairly new cross the following year like one of Beachys 2006's. Wouldnt it be better to just self pollinate that pumpkin the first couple years out to see its actual potential or to cross that with another plant??

Its a guessing game Jason, I took a guess and crossed the 1068 with the new 05 World Record seed the 1469 Checkon this year. I knew the 1068 grows monsters and had a feeling that the 1469 might as well, I was hoping that the 1469 would end up growing alot of pumpkins over a 1000lbs by other growers. So its sometime luck of the cross. I got kinda lucky because the 1068 grew the world record this year, and crossed it with 2005's world record 1469. So that makes that seed I have from that cross have alot of big genetics in it now. So that made my cross 50% luck and 50% planned good cross, lol

Jason I'll put money that a 1068x1370 or 1370x1068 cross will be the next super seed like the 935 ,723,842,1068 1370 was in its time..mark

Thanks for the feedback I guess its preety much a guessing game..It seems like certain crosses are just a gamble but sometimes worth the risk.
