I'm thinking of replacing the Howden with another variety. The Howden seems to have wild vines and be a powdery mildew magnet. P&P Seeds offers from Harris seed collection one called Super Herc that sounds interesting. Has anyone tried it? What are it's characteristics? How about yield? Do you have another suggestion for medium sized, pretty orange, good yield, and PM resistant? Sounds like a pretty tall order! Many thanks, Glenna

Johnny's has lots of neat pumpkin varieties to choose from. I grew Racer and Rockstar this year, as they are very early and I am in a shorter growing season. Both produced very nice medium pumpkin with shapes similar to your Howden.
I lost track of them during our wheat harvest up here, and PM took them down in a few days. If I had been on top of it, the plants would still be alive. Right now I have 60 orange jack o lanterns sitting in my house, waiting for Halloween.
I am planning on trying Charisma like Linus said, they are resistent to some strains of PM. Check out Howard Dills site too, he carries lots of different regular pumpkin seeds.
