Can anyone tell me what the color of the 535 Reinmiller and the 1001 Needham were. I should check my seed source before I waste my time, but I had such good luck with the first one I ever grew that I must think that I will do it again without the effort to get too involved with the genetics. Both of these plants are throwing females that are green...from my limited experience that means I will be getting two, big squash that will be every color except orange. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The 1001 was a light yellow color and it has the 900.5 lyons * on the mothers side. so i guess it is possible to go green.

Thanks Bears and Steve. You have given me some hope. I got so bummed out yesterday when I looked and saw that both had the green to them that I just trimmed the rose bushes and went to bed. I should have gotten some seeds from Marc Sawtelle in CO Spings last October when I had the chance. He had a 600+ pounder that he grew from a clone of a plant he grew the summer of 2004 that looked like it was made of bright orange plastic. Beautiful it was. I suppose if I am going to be getting depressed over the color I need to pay more attention. Thanks again.

don't give up on the color. i have heard of pumpkins that looked to be squash and turn orange at the end of the season. here's a picture of one that grew that way.http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=43894

Further encouragement. Pumpkin growers are the some of the nicest people you can find. This is the orange Marc Sawtelle grew last year. http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=44830

I grew the 535 last year and ended up with a nice orange. I can't remember how they started out when they were very small but by the time they were the size of a softball I remember them being bright yellow. Mark
