I have a 1385 collecting dust. Is it a good idea using that as a pollinator to produce orange offspring? There is not so many offsprings from this pumpkin? why? The parents 898 knaus and 783 dlaetas is nothing to be ashamed of. /Lars

The 783 itself is a variable seed. The cross with the 898 Knauss only makes it more heterozygous, which results in even less consistency in the offspring. The parents did both do well, which is a positive. I generally don't like the 1385, but there is a chance that there is a really good 1385 seed out there. The best crosses I can think of would be with a fairly pure 898 Knauss or 801.5 Stelts line in order to get some more consistency. I could be wrong though. Tom

The 826.5 Shymanski (1016 Daletas X 1385 Daletas) produced a very nice brilliant orange pumpkin for me (before it ended in a stem split) so I think it works great as an orange pollinator.
