Other than the fact that it is the World Record for Size none. It was estimated at around 1700lbs.

i don't know, the 1230 and 1016 Daletas were both very light to the chart, and they've still influenced some of the nicer (and still thick) pumpkins of 2005.

I noticed this last week.....the 705stelts and 1254 grew WR fruit by the original growers...each went light.....I wish I had a 705....and Im sure we will all wish we had 1354's(if we don't already)........G

So, does growing a pumpkin with a thick skin have more to do with genetics or enviroment? Can it be influenced by fertilizers, additives ect?

Yes, wall thickness, aka heavy/light to the charts, is effected by several different growing conditions but, also genetics. What caused the 1469 to be so far under is interesting. I don't think Mr Checkon has a history of growing light to the chart pumpkins,I'd bet it wasn't something Larry did. Can someone with AGGC access please lookup some of the pumpkins Larry has grown to see how heavy/light they went to the charts the 1354, 1162 of 2003, 986 Checkon of 2002,the pollinator of the 723 that grew the 1354, and his heavily planted 815 of 1998. Of the four 1354 progeny only one went heavy, 875 Lehman, which taped 854.6, 2.39% heavy, which is right within the +/- 5% and could've easily been taping or odd shape. All of the 1354 progeny combined to go 9.72% light including the 17.88% light 1469, it taped at 1788.8, dang, remove the 1469 from the equation and they combined to go 4.1% light. The 1354 is basicly all 723 with a little 815 Checkon thrown in, 815 (977 Anderson x 935 Lloyd). I haven't been around this game long enough to know what the 815 is known for, maybe some guys who have been can chime in on that one. The 1469's pollinator was the 1104.5 Hester, the Checkons 1104 Hester went 14.62% heavy. I believe this would make most come to the conclusion that the 1354 grows BIG, but light pumpkins. When they're that big though most who can are gonna give it a run. It looks like Larry made a very good choice by adding heavy genes into it on the first try. It'll be interesting to see is the heaviness and size both carry over into the 1469 progeny. If it does, yikes, a step closer to 2000? Maybe this will be one of the first world record seeds that doesn't disappoint.
