Maybe something with a lot of 898 Knauss in it. Also 735 Pukos.

It depends on what you are looking for. A more easily obtainable seed that should make an interesting cross would be the 1367.5 Rose. It the reverse cross of the 1097.

1097's somtimes can be light in colour and also weigh close to the estimate or a little light. So I would cross Orange and heavy. I grew the 1097 this year and crossed it with the 1076 Werner for these reasons. The fruit on my 1076 was a nice mottled orange and went 13% heavy. The 898 cross should work well for weight, but forget colour. The 1370 would work. Both these seeds are impossible to get unless you have lots of cash. Maybe consider something with 846 Calai in the background, perhaps 670 Dagle, 500 Northrup, 1125 Frantz.

I crossed my bright red-orange 1097 fruit with a little known Toftness cross that also produced great orange-calai mottle....the 161Toftness02 side vine seed cross fruit...707Toftnes(846x723) x 846Calai cross. So thats a 1097(845x723) x (846x723)x846 cross....looks good on paper....

What about the 1432 Carlson/Peterson it is already a selfed 1097 beachy. Or even better the 1053.5 Dieffenbaugher it is a selfed 1432 Carlson/Peterson There are 2 other selfed 1432 Carlson/Peterson on the AGGC. I think one of those back crosses would make some great seeds! If you do them dibbs on a seed or two.

I made an 898 x 1097 cross this year that may be good to try. It was 734.6 lbs. I think this is the first cross made. I do think there are reverse crosses though, 1097 x 898

The one I contemplated was the 1029 Nesbitt(723x845). Anyone ever plant that one?

the 1370 is gonna be hard to get! im not sure about the 1432 but you may be able to get a 1053.5 Dieffenbaugher easier. go to the seed exchange board and ask.

crossing the 1097 with a 1432 or 1053.5 would be the last crosses I would do. The 1097 is known to split, so crossing it with the 1432 which split or the 1053.5 which has a DMG designation would probably produce a seed with a huge split risk. I personally like the 1314 Beauchemin, and I don't think you could go wrong with the 1354 Checkon, though it may not be the best cross to go heavy OTC. Also regarding splitting; how the 1469 didn't split amazes me. The 1061 Ciliberto maybe, or a second or third generation 895 Hester. The 869 Calai would be nice too... depends on what you're looking for. Tom
