If I understand correctly, it is a pumpkin crossed with itself repeatedly, or a sibling for a number of generations?? Why would this produce seeds that are particularly vigorous? Also, I understand that you are trying to bring out recessive traits, but it is inbreeding, and my understanding is that this can bring out unhealthly, as well as undesirerable traits as well. You science types, English please! :}

Try this:
Go to www.aggc.org Click on the "non-members menu". Click on "AG Genetics Primer"
If you're a member, I think there is also some good stuff inside, there once was a paper there by Joe Ailts, which was pretty good. Nic Welty has some good info as well.
In 20 words or less, a vigor cross might happen when you do some inbreeding on one or two lines, and then cross them.
