do all giant pumpkins have a strain of a/g dill in them? @ is it illegal now to come up with your own patent or a cross breed of giant pumpkin?

It is legal to breed them any way you want since dill's pvp end 05/30/2004.

B. Max., I am guessing yes. All kinds of places sell pumpkins...most grocery stores, etc. Seeds for sale all over the place...e-bay, garden stores, etc. Curious as to what type of "cross breed" of giant pumpkin you are looking to create? Peace Wayne

The name "Dill's Atlantic Giant" is still copyright protected. But anyone can sell any seed or pumpkin so long as they refrain from pirating the Dill name.

im thinking a big max a/g cross. maybe even sell some for halloween. pumpkins are very hard to come by in the city during the season. ive had trouble finding them about a week or 2 before halloween. i was thinking business opportunity doing something i love to do. maybe selling seed online.

Tremor wrong you can not copyright a seed variety name. Even if you did it would hold no legal standing to prevent some from selling ag seeds. There was a whole thread about this 2 years ago.

Big Max,
It's always been my understanding that the original strains developed by Howard Dill were achieved by using the Big Max anyhow, plus some other large strain. Probably some squash, too.
I'm sure that by crossing back again you would encourage the orange traits of the Big max. And likely a smaller pumpkin than the AG. But it would take several years to get what you're looking for. Then, I think you could just take your seeds, call them "rising sun" or some BS name and start selling them if you want.
