I enjoy growing or should I say trying to grow a large pumpkin year after year...I was just wondering if thier is a seed I can get that is geared toward a smaller garden and has proven results..My garden size is approx 4 x 14 feet......

It just depends on what you consider a big pumpkin? I have a small 350 sqft patch. I know I am not going to grow a giant but aim for a nice shaped orange one that is over 200lbs. This year I grew 315, 275, 100 off of one plant. The stump rotted at day 40 so they would have been bigger still I am happy with what I have. In your space- if you could let the vines grow on the grass anything is possible.

an area that small would sustain a plant, but you would need to let the plant grow out over grass or something, even up a fence, etc. I think 100 sq foot could grow a big one from stories I have been told. My plant was only 350 sq foot with no stump and I got 861 lbs, certified and weighed, it split and was headed for over a 1000 lbs easy actual weight. These plants will surprise you, give it your best shot and maybe you can share a big pumpkin story from a small plot. Just get a good proven seed. Jimmy

I think you could grow a pretty big pumpkin in a 4x 14 area if you prep the soil well and much better chances if you can let the vines grow beyond that area as Jeff suggested. I also think to be successful you do need a proven seed, something that has a lot of bang in it.

If your interested watch my diary. My season is pretty much over so I came up with a project plant to keep me motivated. I have a 724 Carlson (846 Calai x Self) that is 150 sqft. I have a fruit that is .... ohhh 12 - 13 days old right now that I plan to get to 500 lbs by Oct 1st or day 40. Anyhow, my goal is to prove that a small plant can be very productive. If it is successful and you want some seeds let me know. The seeds will be 724 Carlson X 1083 Frantz. The 1083 grew my 1114 in a 500 sqft area.

I Had a plant growing in only a 5 x 24 area or 120 sq. ft. It has a fruit estimated at 544 lbs. Soil is not the greatest but it was much easier to work with this plant since area was smaller than my others.

For may sake garden size this year wasnt an issue, I picked a sunny location ( never grown anything)along side my house dug a hole about 2x2ft loosened up the soil and last week in May I dropped my 721.5 Vincent into it. July 27th I pollinated my fruit. and as of today Sept 10th shes nearing 400 lbs and putting on 35 pounds a day :-)
My main patch which is 15x20 with 2 years of well worked soil has NO plants nothing everything ws killed by SVB'S I am SURE glad i planted this other seed so late in the season or my season would have been done a month ago with NO fruit again
