I think my 1097 Beachy pumpkin is starting to have a dill ring. Does the 1097 have this growth defect in its other pumpkins? I was looking at the 1432 Carlson/Peterson pumpkin and it looked like it had a small dill ring.

ok I take that back now about the dill ring. Now it looks like a dent, like a car hit the corner of the pumpkin,Kinda like what my wife did to our brand new car 3 days ago, the new car I never drove that was dented on the hood, back, left fender, and right fender.Come to think about it she was the one that broke my 1068 plant at the stump also..........................wife for sale.

Christy, Mine has a crease in it also but mine is near the top right half (dent end) near the stem. What happens when the creases start folding in to each other? It just dont seem possable that it can hold together when they start overlaping does it?

picture ?
Here is a help that I learned from ... humm who was it ? I think was Lincoln Mettler talking about Brett Hester ... or visa versa.
... don't ever let them run into each other... when they are about to touch ... everyday take something thin and flat ... like a credit card or metal ruler or etc ... and run that along the gap ... yup you'll be removing some pumpkin but the two side will never meet. it also works well for creased ribs that are growing together.

Brooks, is this the pumpkin ? http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=39852
I'm not seeing a dill ring in that picture. I think a picture of the area would help. Since I'm don't feel like I know what is happining competely I don't want to tell you YES or NO with regards to making a gap. If you do decide to make one then yes a I think a little captan would be a good idea. gordon

Gordon, I forgot all about this post. I wanted to tell you i have been using a real thin piece of plastic about 12 inches long and I have it between the crease and its been working great so far with no problems at all! Thanks,
Brooks
