OK, next week I'll start a diary! But I have a question/observation from my cold frames - now remember ALL GP seeds have been started same way, same soil, same cold frame...
Had 100% germination in the O.P. Dill seeds, all are strong plants... Had 80% germination of O.P Prizewinner, 100% O.P. Big Max - all are strong plants...
Now here's what I've gotten so far from the 'private grower' seeds that you all have sent me:
572 Bosworth (1081 R.WentzellX940L.wentzell) germination, strong growth...
640 Mudd '03 (1074 Calai X 1236 Eaton) germination, moderate growth.
706 Mudd '04 (1236 Eaton selfed)germination, moderate growth
1008.5 Mudd '04 (500 Mitchell '99 selfed)germination, weak growth.
The following have not germinated: 374 Bosworth, 798.4 Mudd, 691.5 Mudd, 631 Mudd, 660 Mudd, 665 Mudd.... Only started 1/2 of the seeds sent for these varieties - will wait 4 days and start 'second rounds'...
Any input as to why those particular varieties were vigorous - and the others were not?

Because while you were talking to the seedlings you inadvertantly let out the fact that the prizewinners and OP Dills were up against AG's from other growers.....while the AG's from other growers aren't worried, the prizewinners and OP Dills are scared silly of the others and realize they need to get a head start....

the seedlings that APPEAR to be weaklings are going to catch up and surpass the others... trains get going more slowly than cars, but they are hard to stop once they get up to speed!!! eric

When i test germinate my 572 and 374 seeds at the same time, the 572 always grows quickly and strong for some reason, then the 374 will pop up about a day or two later. I have them both growing now in my indoor greenhouse and the 374 is now neck and neck right up with the 572. The 374s cots are not as big as the 572's though but that has to do with seed size i think.

One other thing i think might make a seedling grow faster is cot size right? the bigger the cot the more light it absorbs? yes , no?
