The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth is asking for your $upport!

In an effort to increase our base, we are introducing a DONATE button on the BP Home Page, (coming soon). We have already added a DONATE button to the GPC Home Page. http://www.gpc1.org/

Your GPC Committee members work to cultivate the Hobby of growing giant pumpkins fruits and vegetables throughout the world by establishing standards and regulations to ensure quality of fruit, fairness of competition, recognition of achievement, fellowship and education for all participating growers and weigh off site across great mother earth.

To show our appreciation for your minimum donation of $5.00, we will send you a GPC Donor decal for your window, bumper or collection. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/DisplayPhoto.asp?pid=7682&gid=-32842

Thank You for your Support

Growers that do not support the GPC are not asking for any money. We are only asking to be recognized as giant pumpkin growers and that our pumpkins have exactly the right to be recognized as the pumpkins that the GPC recognizes.

I noticed recently that this wonderful website has now started to recognized non GPC weigh offs, hats off.

The rules for a verified pumpkin should not be limited to one group of growers.

Have had a few emails on where the DONATE $ goes to. So I will answer that in the best of my ability. Donations go into the General GP fund. The Committee decides based on what fundage is available to support the weigh offs, The GPC Big Show (lots there), website fees, website administration fees, Top 10 pay offs in fruit categories, plaques and awards.

For instance, due to rising costs of about everything, we have had to cut in half the video equipment needs at the BIG Show. Every year it costs more and more, we try to keep the costs down so that growers can attend.

Subject matter experts for the seminar costs $$ too, many want their expenses, flights paid for with a modest fee as well, we have to choose whatever fits our means.

We have a new category this year, and if we expand awards to new categories that's more expenses to in payouts and awards.

I can go on and on and our treasurers both past and present show the numbers at the big show where all the money goes and could further expand if need be. Bottom line, everything goes back to the growing community, GPC is a non profit entity. No one on the committee draws a paycheck. The more money in the kitty, the more benefit goes out to the community growers.

Hopefully some day we can get a major sponsor, so we can do even more. The GPC Thanks all those who help promote our hobby and interests on their websites, and at their opportunities at the weigh offs and contests. We all stand to gain from efforts put forth.

Good Luck to all this year in all the events.

wizzy & gpc supporters

there will always be those that do not agree with an organizations decision, be it fund raising, policy or personal likes and dislikes.

we are all certainly entitled to our opinions however, it bothers me to see the image of this great organization (the gpc) in a negative light.
many volunteers worked hard to build the gpc to where it stands today.i can only imagine how they feel after reading negative commentary. it helps no one.

have mistakes been made? you betcha. in a few cases would there be different decisions made if we had a reset button? you betcha.

these things happen when you have a organization built entirely on the support of volunteers.we are very fortunate to have them over the years.

Pap, please make a statement about the german and European weigh offs allowing previous weighed pumpkins. you have so many people that will follow you and support you.

are you only going to support the GPC or are you going to support the rest of the growing community as well?

no one is suggesting that the volunteer service of the GPC is anything but good. but if the decisions are not holding to their own rules then we should recognize that.

Pap, you know I am not a person that makes a deal about nothing. I have always supported those that need the support outside of our hobby.

We as a group should recognize those that have made bad decisions, educate them, and move on.

If we do not recognize them, then we are hiding our heads on the sand.

big o
i dont have knowledge of any previously weighed pumpkins (by previously weighed i am refering to weighed in or at another weighoff site)anywhere including europe.

if however this did happen? it should never happen again.
shopping pumpkins around from weighoff to weighoff is not only unfair to other growers, its plainly just a money grab.

I made an error in judgement in how I tried to get Ian/GPC to denounce this practice. I will never be the same with my enthusiasm towards our hobby, a self imposed punishment. I love this hobby and am sorry and very sad.

The German and European weigh offs support this practice.

I will continue to support your charitable work Pap, thank you for replying.

I know I will never have the understanding of why my morals can not except what is being done at those weigh offs.

I hope that everyone has a successful season and that they have fun.
