Although Cheyenne (age 17) is no rookie, this year was her first time entering a GPC weigh-off. At Allardt she entered a 685 pound pumpkin, a 169.7 pound watermelon, and a 101 inch long gourd. She also entered a 3.84 pound tomato in the early weigh-off

i gotta cast a vote for danny vester also, no disrespect meant to the other noted growers. danny grows in eastern north carolina, which is not the ideal climate for pumpkins to say the least.danny's first pumpkin he ever grew was 1296 pounds and a new n.c. state record that won the cullman alabama gpc weigh off.he followed that feat up by winning the yadkin valley gpc weigh off in elkin, n.c. and broke his own state record with a 1404 pound pumpkin.to top the season off, he finished 3rd and won the howard dill award at the gpc weigh off at the n.c. state fair.so, 2 gpc wins, 1 3rd place gpc finish, 1 howard dill award, and 2 state records for a first time grower is a pretty dang good rookie year i'd say.oh, and he did that in the south, in the heat and humidity of eastern n.c., and without a mentor of any kind, and those circumstances would severely challenge any top growers skills, much less a rookie.whether danny wins the award or not , what an amazing year, and i have a hunch you will see him again next year as well.again, no disrespect to the other growers, absolutely amazing job by all of you.
