Hi,
Could positioning the pumpkin on its blossom end be contributing to the odd shape and potential dill ring? I was trying to get a nice traditional pumpkin shape. Now I'm thinking about laying it back down on its side.
Thx,
Jeff

I could make slight changes in the lean of this pumpkin by the way I blocked it underneath but its up to chance yours will never look right in my opinion

They can improve their appearance sometimes if you can boost your phloem somehow. I dont think that has to do with being blossom down. I think a soil moisture issue or look for mole damage or a little fertilizer boost might be the right direction. Dont give up yet... is that the only pumpkin set on the plant?

It is the only pumpkin left. The last one I cut off had the same shape. I know this isn't overwatered. Are you thinking it could be underwatered? I am using a drip system so it's harder to tell if I am watering enough. The plant looks ok, other than some downy mildew, which is under control with neem oil. Thanks, Jeff

It would be worthwhile to dig down a foot and check. Make sure the drip line is in good working order. Soil pests and pathogens... tree roots... Joel doesnt use imidacloprid I dont think, but some growers probably do get a boost by using pesticides. We do have some soil pests. Just some ideas... somehow the right balance of nutrients arent making it into the pumpkin.

Or, the right quantity. When you figure it out the growth will hopefully improve. I see this kind of thing with moles. Once the moles are gone, the whole plant improves a lot.
