How much do you feel like you have a choice, vs not have a choice? And is this feeling correct?

I would argue that choice/ the empowerment offered by really having a choice, is one of the greatest affirmations to our mental health. Conversely, a lack of choice is one of the greatest insults/ harms to our mental health.

Of course, a choice that hurts others is a false choice. Being pro choice isnt good for mental health, it can damage mental health by locking a person into chains of shame of denying a choice a life to another human.
Straight up... life begins at conception... the laws in the USA are wrong. If you believe anything else you're wrong.

But not meant to be an anti abortion screed...

I'm interested in the perception of choice. Job, marriage, politics, beliefs, how much do you have or not have... a choice? Vs how much do you feel like you have a choice?

Are our own beliefs about how much choice we have, correct or are they incorrect?

If anyone want to dig deep into the topic of choice...

For example, addiction? It starts with a recognition of... making a choice.

Not sure this post will go anywhere. I just think choice, or perceived lack of choice, or real lack of choice... is the basis of, well, so much. Its so important, how can we go through life without discussing it?

Every minute of every day I ought to be thinking about my choices, yet... I really dont.

Actually that kid is smart. He is choosing what he needs, rather than something far beyond what he needs!

Choice is an interesting topic. This video talks about how too many choices actually makes us less happy.

When my kids were little, my wife used to get them dressed and wanted the kids to feel like they had a choice in choosing there outfits. She would pull out two outfits that she approved of. Then the kids would choose the one they liked more. If they were allowed to pick there outfits from any of the clothes they had in their drawer it might have been disastrously mis-matched or who knows what could have happened? Maybe they would have even chosen pajamas to go out in public. THe kids thought they were making a choice, but really they weren't.... the choices were being made for them by my wife. Sometimes we are told we don't have a choice but actually do.
Last year I ruptured my achilles tendon, every doctor I went to told me the only option was to do surgery. I was resigned to this fact and planned on doing the surgery. But then by chance I happened to see that in Europe and many other places around the globe, surgeons were healing ruptures like mine without surgery. That it could be done successfully with casting for two to three weeks and slowly resuming weight bearing with a heal put in a medicine boot. (I chose the non surgical method), it was scary to take that path, but I am glad that I did. And thanks to the internet and youtube I had been made aware of an option that my doctors didn't even tell me was there.

I have done that with my kids. Its so much easier. Plus I think its more respectful than not offering them any choice. I dont think its too nefarious, its a win-win, because I love my kids and want whats best for them, as I am sure your wife does.
Of course, this is what the elite establishment does to us with our voting... they cull out the unacceptable candidates (by various means) then we get to vote on the remaining ones. And this is nefarious... because unlike a good parent, they are under no obligation to want whats best for us.

They give us a choice of three experimental vaccines, for example, while hiding other things like ivermectin, from us. Extremely nefarious...?

Or at the grocery store, the name brand product might be manufactured at the same facility as the store brand product, but since the price and label are different, we are put under an false illusion of choice.

I feel I have a choice in about everything in my life except death & taxes. Especially so now that I am retired. But I see a world going that appears to be going to Hell in a handbasket & so I have become a prepper. I just want to treat folks as if they are my twin & also, be as ready as possible for the misery & destruction I fear are on the way. There is deception everywhere, but, the truth will set us free.

Freedom comes mostly from within. We should should discover how to become liberated from all trauma introduced to our unconscious brains during our 1st seven years of life on the Earth. Few of us are unmarked from traumatic events that we cannot even remember.
