Is Urea a fast or slow acting nitrogen source. I am planting corn and sunflowers.

Fast....Very Fast....Zooom Zoooom if it is to close it will burn...very soluble

i thought about using it for my tall sunflowers you say it well burn,, shoudl i just spread it on the top of the soil

You need to water it in or hoe it in. If not it will loose its nitrogen to the air.

I use it to side dress my sweet corn. But don't use it till you have the fourth leaf showing. I did use it on sunflowers last year with no issues.

so i should put it on the top of the soil after i get the fourth leaf and water it in,,, or cover it with soil

Just water it in and it will be fine.
