Yuuuuuup.,,,soggy here in the valley..

Soggy is not the word. It's been the wettest year for us since we 1st started growing pumpkins in 1991. We haven't had to water & our plants have a yellowish look to the leaves due to the wet soil. The water level in our garden well is usually at the bottom by this time of year. Checking it out last night & the water is only 20" for the top of the soil. We also got another 1/2" last night.
Good luck.

Rain galore here in Vermont as well. No personal bests for me this year. I'm lucky if I get 2 dry days a week. Some growers are ready to throw in the towel and call it quits.

You really need to have well drained soil in a year like this. If your soil even holds a moderate amount of water, it is too much. It figures I went out and spent money on a irrigation set up this year. I haven't needed it too much.

North of us has been real wet. One spot got 10 inches in one day last week. Down on the Missouri border they are super dry. Here around Anamosa the rain has been close to ideal. We could use some more now, but we have a chance of rain the next few nights. Last year was real wet, most growers lost most of their plants. We managed just one over 1000#.

I've heard the North\Northeast has been nothing but rain, hard to grow on a quagmire.

Maybe next year, you do rice and moss and I'll do a cactus. State champs 2018!

Blah blah blah!!! You boys sound like a pre school nursery!! Hahahaha just kidding no hard feelings! You're the exact opposite of me! My thermometer says 101 currently!! Actually got a good rain day before last but other than that, it's $400+ water bill...... and I don't even have a damn pumpkin yet! Late planter, but I had never even heard of a giant pumpkin till late may so I thought what the hell
