I thought I might have the squash vine borer but I can't find any holes in the vine or yellow excrement. I did bury all of the vines but had to unbury a little in order to create slack for the pumpkin to grow. I found the vine brownish and cracking when I uncovered. I sprayed with fungicide this morning. Any help appreciated.

You need to carve any brown discoloration off from it, or else it will continue to rot. Even if that means the whole vine. Make thin slices until you can't see any more.

unbury the vines, and you can use sulfur power on some of the affected areas to help stop the spreading. You can scrape off discoloration like rick said, wash the area with a bleach solution and dry it off. then cover in sulfur powder. Protect the areas from rain and moisture and cover them up. but allow airflow to keep it dry.

Excess moisture (normal for pumpkins), buried vines and high temperatures will lead to rot. Its best to, ones roots have taken hold, to un bury the vines that were buried
