Try to not think of anything at all seen as the culprit; Cucumber beetles see a weak plant and that's a dinner bell to them. So, if the plant looks like it has suffered any circumstance, the cuke beetles take advantage, then the slugs and the grower doing all that he or she can to 'correct it'. That small of a plant would fare better to just be left alone until SOME improvement occurs all on its own. 4-10 other additives like I might have used to do will likely not help. I was AMAZED, though, at LK's suggested ammonium sulfate treatment to Henry-the giant pumpkin grower's plant a week ago or so. https://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=359292 However, all a roll of the dice and I'd wait 5-7 days to see what the plant will do for itself (take more pic/s) and NOT AppLY anything except water minimally and only ONE thing MAX that has TRulY indicated usefulness; The newer growth seems to look pretty good; Practicing NoT adding to the equation, I am. The newer growth seems to look pretty good; Good luck---eric g

I agree pumpkinpal that jerking the plant around with this or that can stop the plant from figuring things out on it's own. But if you give the plant with the right thing at the right time it will thank you. Hmm, reminds me of some human relationships.

If I may make a general comment, it's so much harder when you have only one plant to dote upon... if growers would have a half dozen other plants that they do not care too much about then they could do all the goofy stuff they want to try. This could help sort out a lot of the good and bad ideas and answer questions about "is xyz helping" or "what would happen if _____". These extra plants could double as trap plants for insects too, possibly.

Not saying you are doing anything goofy just saying the truth is we often dont give ourselves the ability to try more than one thing. Growers are so worried about making mistakes that there is no room for alternative possibilities? It's nice to be able to figure things out.
