I have always thought it was an early season thing from cool weather. I get it on at least one plant every year.

I think it is just a small amount of the precocious b gene revealing itself. There was an article about it several years ago in the GPC newsletter... if i remember correctly

Not sure why my grower diary is double posting. Ken needs to fix this.

I sent a picture like this years ago to my pathologist and he said it was environmental from either heat of cold weather.

I think its a mineral/ watering issue. But temperature affects the uptake of minerals too as does root health.

I do have heavy clay soil with very high magnesium levels. The weather did get down to 40s and 50s at night.

Is your soil or irrigation water low or high in ph? I think some soils will acidify when they're too wet. The Langley soil balancing might help buffer against cations (Ca, Mg, etc) getting locked up by the clay and/or acidic conditions. I probably dont understand your patch, but I feel like I might be close to being able to.

Last year my pH was 7.8 and this year was able to bring it down to 7 from adding sulfur last year.

Well I can't figure it out based on the soil. Excess water and soggy roots seems like the only variable that would throw a big enough wrench into the machine. Not sure if this is the case. However, it's easy to overwater during cold cloudy weather and its also easy to overwater during hot weather... It's almost like there is never a good time to overwater. It's the only thing issue that would make sense to me at this point.
