I also had that problem it took me over 5 months deciding the seeds.

Looks like a good probability for success based on genetics. From what I can see your 2250 Schmit has the same seed characteristics of my 2501 Bernstrom ie light colored vs the darker brown ones. This is my first year and I've wondered if seed characteristics compared to the parents have any bearing on whether the child pumpkin will look more like dad or mom.

Aahhhhhhh, tongue depressors. Get it?
Haaaa...I got them at like 500 pieces for a (gulp)
life-long supply?, lol.
Door: 'What happened to all of YOU?'
TDs: 'You don't wanna know. It's...too depressing...'

Country Boy---Just in my opinion, the seed is the first thing in which it is evident that a successful cross has occurred to begin with and the resulting color of it is the mixing and resulting characteristics having 'fought it out' for color, size and texture. Sure, some crossings over several generations can all be one seed type/color/etc., but they are all internally slightly-different. This is why no other prediction surpasses that of the 'track record' - what that seed STOCK has produced before. Even then, 20+ seeds can yield 20+ slightly- or majorly-different pumpkins, some of which we never even see. Good Luck---eric g

Thanks, could you elaborate a bit more how success of cross pollination can be assessed by seed characteristics? If that's not want you meant I apologize. I appreciate ANY knowledge I can obtain from growers far more experienced than moi!

Nice selection and that you have some seed from your region, so it's already "climatized" for your area, better odds. Good luck!

I dunno about 'far more', (ask anyone, lol!) but I appreciate that anyway>>---> (^;^) There have been discussions about seed color and other end results FROM certain-colored seeds butt I dunno what the outcomes were - probably hit or miss and maaaayyybeee inconclusive, but maybe Site Search 'seed color results' or similar (*keep trying different things*) and see what comes up. Site Search is temporarily disabled during pending Auction times and for about 4+ hours afterward. So, to ME, anyway, seed color has no bearing on any eventual pumpkin growth characteristics that would deter ME from growing any seed, especially if that seed's TRACK RECORD of eventual pumpkins' weights/colors/shapes/per cent heavies and so on indicate a Personal Best (PB)-Buster is possible. Merely, cross ANYthing with ANYthing and the resulting seeds 'merely' show the first characteristics that CAN be seen. I think I and we whom were discussing it perceived corn as the best, most-visible example of seeds that exhibit an early 'end result'.
I hope this helped and 'we're here for you' with any questions you may have about pretty much anything and Site Search can be a very useful tool for further findings while waiting on the sparse-for-now BP.C crowd. Further, posting in 'New Growers Forum' will get the World seeing any question,
rather than 'merely' in one's Diary or another's, butt nowadays, 'reply on the fly' is a good option, also! Good Luck and take care---eric g
