What is rehydrating? Why?

It was off the vine for quite a few days... trying to regain some of the weight it lost. I picked it a week ago.

Non-tomato grower question here... Is that even allowable/fair? The fruit is actually gaining water weight from this process? And does it do any harm to the fruit if left in too long?

Well, pumpkin growers would probably do the same if they could. Ever see a pumpkin show up to the weigh off with the vine ends put in water jugs? It gains water from this. It could be a concern perhaps but I don't see the gpc saying that you can't try to keep things hydrated... or rehydrate them to the level they were at when first picked. Which my tomato failed to do. So despite my best efforts it was still a dehydrated tomato. By .4 lbs.

It weighed 7.42 when first picked but I didn't have a working phone at the time. Maybe should have asked to borrow someone's phone... I'm very competitive but sometimes I just accept my losses.
