Personally, I'd do the nub-ectomy. There really shouldn't be any complications with snipping it off, but I can think of a big problem that could happen soon after it pinches together if you don't.

Nub-ectomy? I've heard it all now, good one Andy. Not a button to push...you guys are good. Someday growers will have their own "AG Pumpkin Dictionary". Wonder what the general public would think when they may overhear 2 veteran growers discuss their season during a weigh off? Lol

The only alternative would be to keep the two sides apart. Would require 2" of semi-squishy styrofoam... or something. But that just spreads the weight redistribution problem to a wider area... Doesnt fully solve it.
