I am not sure that a pumpkin can look any better. https://tools.pumpkinfanatic.com/fruitImages.php?PN=1263.5%20Montsma%202020

The genetic background suggests that 2k should be attainable by a grower with the right skill set and location. (2145/1501/1872 Sipple) Are seeds like this just discounted because of the lower weight?

It was a very nice pumpkin, not sure how widely distributed its seeds were or how good the count was. There have been a lot of good looking 1501 progeny of similar size, hard to pick which ones to grow. One may also be more inclined to grow the mother seed, since it was proven.

I just noticed that I mispelled "progeny." But man, I keep looking at that pic and wonder why that pumpkin never got any traction. It retained the color of the 1501/1872 but has a much better pumpkin shape.

Didn't see your post craig. I hear you, but the 1501 will cost you a $100 more than the Montsma. Montsma if you are reading this let me know if I can bubble you. lol

Hi Brian, the 1263.5 Montsma is a beauty! I have not seen any available at auction either?

Vermont had them in their silent auction. I paid $15 for two seeds. Looking forward to growing them.

If you search 1263 you will find them in numerous auctions. AG had a plant growing and I think that jimp could not get to germinate. AG might be able to answer your question about how it did.

I grew one. The seedling was messed up and I was hoping it would pull out of it, but it never turned into a normal plant. Got 3 fruit 200-350# or so, all beautiful. It was back to back with the plan that grew the 1398 in the orange patch so it wasn't the soil.

I'd also bet some of the 1263 seeds didn't germinate.

Afternoon, everyone,to set it straight, the 1263.5 did not have more than75-100 good seeds.i donated bout 50 seeds last year and this year to auctions. i started 2 plants last, culled both cuz i went with the 1083 Schmit and the 1665 MacDonald, why? 1 plant did not lay down very well and had a kink in main so i culled it and other plant was a coin toss, which i grew the 1528 . montsma off the 1665 MacDonald. I do have a handful of seeds left, want to try it again this year. have a nice plant started in basement for a germination test that looks pretty good, that 1263.5 was a late set as well and turned out pretty good.

When I stumbled across the 1263.5 I was in love at first sight. I spent days/weeks trying to find a way to get a few seeds. After sometime and help from and old school grower My cheeks hurt from smiling so much when they arrived in my frozen upstate New York mailbox. I know in life we all beat to a different drum, there are no guarantees however if I never grew these seeds it would haunt me as long as I live. I made Tom a promise that I would treat this seed the same way I would a world record, and that is what I will do. Rest assured I have two spots in my garden, if germination goes well one will be the 1263.5 Montsma for 2022. Come this time next year all questions will be answered. I will probably do a growers diary so people can follow along if they would like. I wish everyone the best year ever. Surely, out of my gourd.

I agree that it is probably the best looking Pumpkin of that size I have ever seen. the shape is outstanding and the color is impeccable. I think a few tried it last year but due to various issues no one was able to get one to the scale. Tom was nice enough to send me seeds and I will be growing one this year. I will also be growing its parent seed the 1872 Sippel.
