What will be your go to pollinator for orange. Even though they are new I can’t see how the 1552 Young and 1625 Gansert would produce anything but orange. 1810 and 1501 are at the top of my list also.

1501 V/W, 1297 Young, 1374 Engel, 1092 Gansert are possibilities for me this year. Also have several others in consideration.

We are hoping that by combining the 1297.5 line which was the 1912 Carter x 1000.5 Gansert with the 1501 Vanderweilen, will continue to give us nice smooth orange flesh large orange pumpkins. Not sure what we will be adding to the line but one of our thoughts is the 1625 Gansert as it has more 1059 (from our 907) and Glenna's 1382.5 which re-introduces the 1501 and adds some 1810.

At this point, I wouldn't use the 1501 as a pollinator. Too big of a risk of having cream genetics. I'd rather use one its orange selfed progeny. 1872 Sippel 2019 and 1464 Brown 2019 both produced some HD winners. Or if you want to live a little dangerously, use a 2350.

I gave away a1501 last year and just realized I still have one. I’d like to cross that with a guaranteed orange like the 840 Young.

Hey, I should hang out here more often. I do have 5 HD awards now...
I'll put my orange lines up with anyone. They just don't get big, or do they? I've never been able to get size, and still haven't figured that out. But my seeds will do better with someone else. Anyway, there is no way no how my seeds go anything but orange. ;-)
Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Cliff,
You do produce some beauties. We have the same thing going on in that I can produce the orange but don’t get the size. Hoping when I quite growing commercially and don’t have 50-60 AG’s growing I can concentrate on a few to get size and hopefully get to go to weighoff sand maybe one day have one HD. At least a couple more years of commercial production before that happens though.

Joseph you will definitely grow some giant orange monsters that will be at the top of the scales at any weighoff. Based on what I have seen myself and also what I have been told by heavy hitters, it really does come down to how much time and money you can pour into each plant. Growing for commercial production and for weigh off success requires two different approaches.

Going risky with the 1501. Tired of trying for HDAW and 4/5 times placing second. My team grow will be 1374 Engel or 817 Ritter. Might try to cross with 1409.5 Miller.

I am looking at various combinations of 1464 Brown (confirmed HD quality 1501 VDW self) x 1211 Ailts. This produced 704 Ailts in 2020, aiming to replicate this cross in 2021 again, as well as growing 704 to test outcome of the combination.

I want the genetic ceiling potential of 1501 coupled with tall, round, sunburst coloration of the 1211 Ailts/1374 Engel heritage.

I agree with Craig. 1501 VDW has too much variability in color outcome. Choosing the the most desireable self cross (1464 Brown, IMO) removes risk of pollinating with an undesireable orange.

For the record, I grew 1501 in 2019 and it was a CREAM colored fruit. puke.
