Would like to make a list of 2020 HD winners and also update my top twenty heaviest HDWinners list. If you had an HD winner or know some of them for 2020 I would appreciate a rely with pumpkin weight and name along with its parentage. I sure miss the old Howard Dill dairy page

First correction. Although the 1625 GANSERT was a real pretty pumpkin it was not an HD winner.

Cliff Warren has to be the most overlooked HD winner in the United States. He is the Norm Gansert of the West. He has been entering contests since 2007. He took home two HD's this year alone.

2020 HDs:

769.5 WARREN- (500 WARREN X SELF)

This list is just another reason why the GPC should denote the official HD winner. There are what a 120 or so GPC events and we have a hodge podge list of maybe 40 HD winners.

I think the GPC is scared to recognize HD winners with an organized yearly list. I believe they are scared that the HD award will overtake the largest pumpkin award. All they have to do is put asterisk next to an HD winner.

At some point it has to be intentional on the part of the GPC. There certainly is not significant amount of work required to collect information on winners. It is my understanding that the GPC event results sent back to GPC do not even have a place on the results sheet for the HD award.

Easier for people to compete for a HD than the biggest one. Maybe a jacket if you win three HD’s in a year. :). This coming from someone who has never been to a GPC weighoff. But that’s going to change when I really retire in a couple years. I really want an HD some day.

Orange U Glad, I'm thinking they don't recognize because the HD award is subjective where as even an ugly grey pumpkin could win over a nice orange one.

Weights are weights, that's it, and numbers don't have potential feelings or a bias towards a grower.

I understand what you are saying Bryan about it being a beauty contest. But I think HD winners deserve an annual list of winners like weighoff winners get. It would be nice to know, who the HD grower of the year was, who was the HD grower of the decade, etc.

Also they should have a photo of them on the pumpkin fanatic there are so many beauty pumpkin seeds that aren’t grown because a lot of us don’t know what they look like. It’s not that hard to do.

I'm sure it would or *should* be up to the growers of the pumpkins world-wide to each sit at their computers for a while every few days (right after reading anything I'VE typed that day, lol) to enter a pic of each of their pumpkins - it dawned on me recently that a lot of the fruits listed don't have pictures because, well, does every pumpkin get its picture taken and SUBMITTED FOR that purpose? Probably not. It's not a Miss America pageant in that respect.

We are lucky that the listings for what ones are there ARE there; If a pic is submitted, that's the icing on the cake, of course.

SO---ALL growers should go on pumpkinfanatic.com and look at their details of each of their pumpkins and simply submit a picture for EACH - It is up to everyONE to do.

Oh, by the weigh, if IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII can grow a 500-pound orange pumpkin, ANYone can - It is getting one over 1000 or 1500 that would be more of an accomplishment. Perhaps the 500-pound stipulation needs to be increased to that, because maybe when it was first incorporated into the prize scheme of things, that lower-limit weight was perhaps more reasonable, attainable and indicative of a seed's potential. There CAN BE amendments to an entity's rules when they are needed.

I need to re-find a diary-type photo log I saw a few days ago in the Photo Gallery in which there were less-than-500-pound HD Winners listed; Is the stipulation still that a fruit must be 500-plus pounds to be an HDAW? Or quite simply the prettiest, shapeliest, most-uniformly-ribbed and damage-free specimen of all with the color of a thousand Navel oranges in an explosion...?
If so, then I should be a definite contender in '21.

If I can just get my trailer hitch on, lol!

Oh, and while yer at it:

Ken replied back to me regarding the GPC weigh off data entry. Unfortunately the HD check box link was broken so he cannot pull that data from the past weigh offs but did say he would fix it to be able to pull a report this year. He did however pull data where the weigh off data entry people had put in a comment regarding the HD award and that info is here.

If you want to see some HD winners and other nice ones , go to PGPGA and hover over the weighoff tab. Click on a year and on the bold print names you can see a pictureof pumpkin. You will figure out who grows orange on older years.
Also if you do the auctions, they are there back to the year 2000. Site done right for this stuff.
