what is the number one seed you are looking to plant in 2017 to work on your big orange genetics.
I am really interested in the 858.9 Karkos HD winner seed. You guys know how I like red and this seed has it. I think I have one coming if it can get through customs. Can't wait to see what I can get crossing it with my 359.5 ( 128 Rys x self) that was also really red. Also have a 1998.5 seed that I really hope has the orange gene instead of the white. Have to say there are some Gansert and Wolf HD winners I like also.

I have some 890 Dill 2012 seeds 1290 Poirier x 670 Daigle that will almost certainly get planted and a 593 Dill- 589 Dill ( 670 Daigle x 846 Calai ) x 1290 Poirier. A 730 Dill would just about make it perfect as a pollinator for both.

I'm giving the 1495 Snyder a shot. Having the orange mother crossed into Clementzzz, I hope I can't go wrong.

agteacher. I received seeds from Mr. Karkos last year. They came to Canada quickly. I like his pumpkin color also. I had problems with bugs this year. I crossed it with the 1561 Reeb. It only went to 250 est. I hope the seeds for 2018 will be very red , good luck Jim

If the 1474 Clementz 16 has seeds available from it, I will definitely consider it. Check out the 2016 Diaries of MemphisBelle and OLD-ROOKIE. They made some nice orange crosses. The 1109 Borgers 16 is another one I'm considering. It's selfed for 4 generations I believe.

I'll grow my 982 Trychta this year. It may not have gone heavy, but that's where the work begins correct? Last year's pollinator went 5% heavy, so hopefully I can continue to build on that without diluting color too much.

Looking at 2106 Schmit for possible back and forth pollination if seeds are available.

I like threads like this because it makes me look at seeds I may not look at. the 1463 Hoelke ( mother of the 1495 Snyder and the 982 Trychta both are interesting. generally I go after the mother of an HD winner rather than the HD winner itself. Guess that always puts me a year behind.

I'm growing 359 Foss and 1109 Borgers. Both will go orange. Third spot undecided, possibly 1376 New(1916 Barron 2014 x 1947.5 Clementz 2014) I had a bad year and it still went 900lbs. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2016&grower=73111&action=L

ag, I selfed a 1998 Jutras. It had a very nice orange color to it. It was the largest p-kin grown on the Jutras seed and it was 13% heavy. You can check it out on Materdocs diary dated 10-29. If you would like a couple seeds, let me know.

The 1463 has always gone orange the 8 or 9 times I've seen it grown now. It seems about half the time it gets the light orange bursts like Kevin got this year with his smooth skinned 1495.

He's my 1463 from last year that split from a stupid mistake that I made at day 15 with a board under it. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=247099

It split the third week of August measuring 1380 but weighed 14% heavy at 1572. Loved the colour on that one.

I grew the 1463 again this year to 1803 pounds with an exact same 14% heavy. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=267944

Great shape and colour again.

The 1463 was a 2009 Wallace mother and the father was the 1778 Daletas. I always thought the 1778 was underrated. It's almost always smooth orange and heavy.

Here's the 1778 father of my 1463. Real nice one. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=251089

RyanH,
Did the 922 have seeds, and if so, do you know of any offspring from it?

I've got a lot of 922 seeds here if you want some. My Address is posted in my diary.

I never did plant the 922 but always wanted to. I only grow one of my own each year and with the 1463 (which is the reverse of the 922) doing so well each year I kept growing it.

I didn't send many 922's out so it's a bit of a sleeper. Can't say I've seen any grown.

Thanks for replying Ryan.

I only plan on growing two plants for next year, and I'm in the early planning stages. I'll be considering your 922 and 1463. For some reason, I like the orange genes on the mother's side, when one of the parents wasn't orange. I also like the 2009 as a pollinator, partly because of the success of the 1317 Clementz and 359 Foss.

So many options out there. I am on a fence as which seeds of my own to grow. The 1048 Engel 2012 almost always throws a Howard Dill, The 1374 Engel 2014 has produced some beautiful fruit also. This year I crossed the 1912 Carter into my 1143 Engel 2015. Which is a 359 Foss 2013 x 1374 Engel 2014. On paper this cross has huge potential. I am thinking I will plant 1200est Engel 2016 which was a 1912 Carter x 1143 Engel, and a 1374 Engel.

While the 730 Dill is still high on the list, I will be getting ( soon hopefully ) 1048 Engel ( 777 Young x self ), 1374 ( 359 Foss x 1048 Engel ), 1143 ( 359 Foss x 1374 Engel ) and 781 ( 1374 Engel x 359 Foss ). Most likely the 1374 or 1143 to be crossed with the 890 Dill ( 1290 Poirier x 670 Daigle ). I also like the idea of crossing the 1143 and 781.
