Thanks Everyone I really appreciate it. I am very grateful to have had such a great year, there were many factors as to why I had such a great year I will cover that later in my diary but for now, I just want to say this and in fact... I would be neglectful if I didn't mention my good friend and mentor Gary Vincent (pooh bear) Gary saw this pumpkin in mid July and gave me encouragement and advice. Gary said "John, this is a really nice pumpkin you are right there with the best growers right now, you need to push these things", the next day he brought me over enough kelp to finish out the season (and then some) In August he talked me through a foamy stump which turned into a rotting stump. (I eventually had to amputate a large portion of my plant which took me off my 2000 pound pace.). There is an old saying that says "no good deed goes unpunished". Often times I have seen this to be true in my life and I think this is true in this case with Gary as it was his pumpkin that mine beat out at the weighoff. The least I can do is mention him and give credit here. Thank You Gary!
Too me the help you gave me exemplifies what this hobby is and where we need to stay if we want to see the weights keep going up, and to pass this on to a new generation of young growers. It is the opposite direction that the world seems headed in right now, but it can be kept alive in our sport. In Don Langevin's book he mentions proper weigh off etiquette and the golden rule. Treat others as you would like to be treated. That has always stuck with me and it is the foundation we have to keep going back to.

One more pumpkin to go, I hope to bring it to Durham this Tuesday. Vines are rotting and needed some cleaning up tonight, Too much rain and humidity this the past week. Today was particularily bad. Might decide to pick it early, but looks like we might have a few sunny days ahead of us. So who knows what I will do.
