Ok So I grew a couple 60 lbers this yr.
Heres my problem I will be growing on black plastic for 2012. YEs I know. But the thistle is really bad so black plastic is the only thing that works.

How far should I space my rows I have a ton of space. How far should each plant be.

I want to grow even bigger ones next yr.

Have your tried planting winter crop to choke out weeds? Add green manure to the patch as well.

regardless of your weed control measures, appropriate spacing for field production is 10ft wide rows, 5 ft between seedlings.

SKMI's suggestion above is highly recommended. fall sown winter wheat will grow to 6 feet by the last week in May in most climes. Round up and knock down for a natural mat that suppresses weeds of all types. Plant seedlings into the mat. Hit residual weeds with spot-sprayer round up in late June/early July and let it go to town. This strategy is highly effective for field production and adds necessary OM and nutrients to the soil for the future.

Highly recommended, priceless resource: NRAES pumpkin production guide:

Joze, so mow it down, and don't till it in...just leave it on top, to choke out weed growth...sorta like black plastic? but green ? Peace, Wayne
