first time growing big lopes-any advantage to burying vines? i am assuming there is not since many use black plastic on the ground and so forth. any other secrets i should know about. plants are out about 3 feet right now.

its rare if ever for loupe vine to root above ground. never tried burying them. Any one ever try ???

yes I tried and no luck getting them to root down. My lopes are on the same feeding schedule as watermelons. Don't let them go long periods without watering or a good rain can blow the blossom right off, lopes are easy to split.

Don't bury vines they will rot. Black plastic is not a good idea either, because lopes don't stand up to heat well. I like to grow them on bare dirt, but if you really need a weed cover use landscaping cloth, with a light colored mulch over it.

Don't think you need them though. Hard not to split them if you really push em. Have grown on black plastic for early lopes but I agree with Holloway for later season.
