I would love to grow cantaloupes, and especially try for large ones but I have two MAJOR problems. At first I have trouble with the plants actually growing, they usually grow a couple inches then shrivel up...and if I get lucky and the plant actually grows, the fruit never sets. I try pollinating them but they seem to just rot and fall of the vine...what is going on??

Just an uninformed guess here...but have you had a soil sample tested? It might give you an idea? Maybe? Peace, Wayne

Try starting them indoors in a potting mix. Just enough water to moisten soil. If you can squeeze water out in your fist it's too wet. Transplant outside after about 3 weeks. Don't over water. When fruit sets, put them on raised beds of sand. Do the soil test well in advance of planting.
