you can get these on amazon to keep your night time temps up. there are a few different brands out there. I got a few that are terrible quality but the one in this link looks good.

This protector has only a 24 inch diameter. I think our plants are bigger. It does give me ideas on how to build my own out of a sheet of plastic, screen, stakes, and of course duct tape.

Thanks Austin... the problem is my 3.64 is now 8 feet tall. 24 inches diameter would probably be enough...it would be tight on the foliage but I could squeeze it in. Height will not work at all. The plant is 8 ft tall, but there is no foliage for the first 4 ft. I trimmed those leaves because of blight. I still think this tomato has potential..it is young enough that it is gaining about 3/4 inch cc per day. 40 degree nights will shut it down. 3 days to do something. Really Wile...not going to show bnot your little greenhouse...hmmph...I guess I wont show mine either. Time is an issue...have to change the shifter tower on my tractor this weekend...or the pumpkins will not be going to a weighoff. Hopefully sunday will have a chance to do something....Monday night is drop dead day.

Bnot, I am going to be a good sport to you. I am going to build a big teepee and put all my plants with big tomatoes on them inside the teepee. I have 4 trellises that are 8 feet tall and 12 feet wide. All that I have to do is to duct tape the plastic onto the trellises and stake/hook them together. One 4 foot section of a trellis will act as a door and the plastic will roll down to the ground instead of wrapped around that section. This is the advantage of growing plants in pots. Are you going to copy my idea of using a teepee? What are you building?

wile, My plants are spread across the garden..probably will be able to protect only one of them. I have quite a few pieces of 2"x2"x8' pieces of wood available. I also have greenhouse plastic. All this is left over for building cold frames in the spring..a project that I never got done. Building the structure and heating it over night will be no problem. What I need to figure out is how to keep the plant from overheating on the sunny days we will have. I leave for work at 3:30 am..no chance to open it up when the temps start to rise.

Bnot, You're going to love the toys from my toy box I am bringing into my greenhouse. I will be posting pictures.

Bnot, I am disappointed that you had to buy a greenhouse off of Amazon. Was my greenhouse made of junk around the yard/house starting to look to good for you to compete against? I am not going to post any more pictures because you bought a greenhouse. I wanted to see what you could make from all the junk around your house/yard.

Maybe we could have a fall junk greenhouse building competition for next year in addition to the other competitions going on.

My biggest issue was time Greg. I had a choice either build my own greenhouse and let tomatoes rot on the vine or buy a cheap greenhouse and see what effect it has this year and continue harvesting seeds. My number one goal at the beginning of the season was 10,000’s seeds. I am trying to stick to plan. Time is a valuable commodity.
