Garden Rebel (Team Rebel Rousers)

Last year I grew my first tomato variety cross. It was a 7.15 White (Big Zac) x 4.66 Spaziani (Oxheart). The tomato wasn't big, just 2.06 lbs. I wasn't going for size, just for the seed cross. A picture of the tomato is here: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=281383

I documented how I crossed the two on my Garden Rebel diary from last year on July 13th.
Just curious what these seeds will grow, you never know, so I need a few people to grow them. The first 8 people to request seeds at rickspaziani@yahoo.com will get 5 seeds. Just send me your email and I will get them out in the next couple of weeks. Thank you.

All right, 8 seed packages available and all spoken for. Lets have a contest. I happen to have a few extra seeds available (actually I have a lot..but we won't go there). Unless Rick disagrees, I will put up a 1625.5 Gantner pumpkin seed to the grower that grows the biggest Zac Heart in 2018. If he is willing, I will send the seed to him, and he can keep track of the results and since he has the addresses can mail the prize to the winning grower. What do you say Rick..contest?...you would be the eligible for competitition...9 growers only.

Sure! That's a good start bnot. Now there are two additional people not of this 8 that seeds will be sent to also (A Clinton NY individual, Hmmm.. and another). Including myself will be 11. I will have to contact them to see if they are in. If Peace, Wayne doesn't check back in there will only be only 10. If there is more interest I may be able to spare a few more seeds. Either way we can make it work. I have some seeds in my stash also, but will look into the unusual like a glass tomato paper weight! Maybe an Oregon sunstone gem that I found and had faceted.

I don't think we have to worry about that Clinton, NY grower...I think he only knows how to grow Domingoes. This could be fun. I will get the Gantner seed to you in the mail this weekend. Are you going to give us any clues on your observations of how to determine Oxheart characteristics vs Big Zac. With wixom's crosses..I can really tell the difference of the plants that have the MegaMarv gene in them. I am really going to be interested to see what the characteristics of the Oxheart gene is.

A few years ago this seed was brought over from a friend from Russia. It is a prolific grower and producer. The fruit really responds to plant trimming when the plant is reduced to a couple of fruit. Able to grow a 4.66 the first year out. The leaves are rather ugly should I say?
Long and lanky. It doesn't seem to like bright summer sun for some reason. I think it originated from a cooler Russian climate. Originally didn't produce megablooms but one large bloom per cluster.

ESheel31(team sLamMer)

The 4.66 was a single larger blossom?
Have you noticed Mega blossoms in the offspring?
Wonder if it would do better as a fall planting if it’s use to cooler climates.

The 4.66 was a single blossom. Last year I planted 3. One of them had multi-blooms on almost all trusses. One of them I let grow. Going nice until a deer ate it. I let another smaller mega bloom go late into the season and it grew to a few pounds. Kept seeds. Another grower reported multi blooms on his from the 4.66. Thinking in 2015 first season it inadvertently crossed with a Big Zac and some of the 4.66 are throwing megablooms.

Loves curcurbits, but I have found them on tomatoes too.
Lays eggs in little clusters on the undersides of leaves.

No, squash bugs and stink bugs are very similar but not the same. You won't find squash bugs on your ceiling this winter, but I'm having a hard time with stink bugs.

Yes, they are stink bugs, thanks. Two years ago, there were none. This year they appear on the ceiling and around the lights.

I held back on suggesting a growing contest with a decent prize until I thought those that were most interested in growing new crosses had claimed all the seeds. Looks like a grower in Italy might be interested in whoever grows the biggest of this cross this year (at least he would be interested in the first place prize). The growers that are getting these seeds, lets have fun. The F1 seeds should be very equivalent. I think it is F2 where the big differences will show. Two years ago, I grew F1's MegaDom, MegaZac and WixomSlammer..my PB was set with a Wixom Slammer. Last year I tried f2 of the previous group, and also F1's of Megamutt D and Megamutt Z, my personal best was set with the Megamutt D, I think it would be great if my new PB was set with a Zac Heart. I have had success with the F1's crosses. Maybe by next spring I can get done my planned...Brutus Magnum-Delicious crossed with a Megamutt D...or maybe the Zac Heart will throw my plans all out the window. This is new territory...lets share our observations.

It's a Brown Marmorated Stink bug. Check my 2017 December entry for pix.

Also, I'm the "other guy" with Zac Heart seeds. Sounds like a fun contest and I will be growing this variety this upcoming season.

It's on BNOT! I will put out a post soon. There is a mix of growers, experienced and newer ones. Twelve total including myself. If another serious experienced grower wants in to test these I do have a few seeds left...email me.
