I have an LG set at maybe 8 ft that I want to keep. A bit too low to the ground. Can I build a wood trough for it to lay in (maybe lined with a cotton sheet) and grow it out at a 30 degree angle rather than digging a hole? Thanks.

Yup… I’d wait as long as you can before putting in on the board though so it gets going straight…sprinkle bone meal down the chute, it’ll slide easier.

Smart thanks. Although, my rat would call that dinner plus dessert so I'll try something besides bone meal... I have the healthiest rat you ever saw. Im sure it thinks it died and went to heaven. Hopefully it thinks that one more time.

I put a 2x4 at an angle and screw a plastic rain gutter on top of it. It seems to slide easy and helps keep it straight.

Don't do it. It worked well up to 100". At 108" it started to swell and got stuck in the gutter. I tried to remove it and put it on a 2x6, and broke it. A fitting end to a bad year.

Sorry to hear. I am trying this:

If needed, I will put a cotton sheet between the gourd and the garden fencing. The good news is I can hopefully tie it all the way up to the ridge beam and haul it to the weigh off. Thanks...
