If someone could please tell me by looking at these two extremly well drawn out examples of long gourds of which example A or B is the correct way to measure an LG. Thanks for any input and for taking the time.

There are rules specific to the LGs in our Resources section on the GPC website (http://gpc1.org/index.php/resources) titled "Judging of Field Pumpkins, Tomatoes, and LG's". There is also a reference document with a picture of such on the right hand side titled "Judging for Various vegetables".
