http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=325031 My melon is developing these black spots on the outside of the fruit. I think it might be bruising, but first time melon grower, so don't know. If these are bruises, will they continue to grow with the melon like damage on an AG, or will they be hardly noticeable on a big melon? I have a back up a week or so back from this one, but really don't like the shape as well as this one. What do you think is causing these spots and should I just cull now and save heart break later?

I was going to say it is probably aborting, but I just saw the picture of it in your diary and it looks like it may be still growing. Is it still growing? If it is still growing I would consider keeping it if it is putting on weigh fast and you like the shape of it. It will definitely have some scarring on it though. I am not sure how much or how big the scars will be though. For now, .Keep both sets and see what happens

The melon is still growing leaps and bounds overnight, and looking nicer to me everyday. The spots don't seem to be growing in comparison to the melon. There is a small indentation where one of the spots is, but it is not soft like a rot would be.

The spots should not affect the health or growth. You will end up with some cosmetic blemishes.

I would paint a little dacconil with a model paint brush just on the spot for fungicide protection. you can cut it a little with water. good luck
