I think Fiona will be the third largest watermelon in North America weighing in at 328 lbs. As for who is going to be 1st and 2nd who knows.

Lets throw a BIG OLE wrench into this conversation. Keep in mind here that anything could keep any melons from the scales, I will make up a heck of a seed packet with the 146.5 seeds that is growing Fiona, Mr. Hankey & Mrs Puff and a bonus of all 3, 2018 seed packets that these 3 melons produce so long as there are viable seeds in them for the (3) Growers who guess closest to Fiona's scale weight (under or over her official weight)even if she doesn't make it to Operation Pumpkin or a different earlier GPC event or any GPC event and I only say that because again anything can happen with 39 days left till Operation pumpkin. Double Bonus, I cover bubble & shipping. FINE PRINT: In case Fiona doesn't make it to scale due to plant damage or disease, (Her plant is in good shape!) I plan on having Fiona weighed at our State Capital AG Department under Supervision of state officials as signed witnesses. I know GPC will not recognize that but Guinness will. I have not even told friends or family except my daughter what Fiona's est weight is to date nore will I before she hits a GPC Event scale. ***Above number guesses are locked in*** GOOD LUCK!!!

Just to add, If Fiona ends up going to Springfield, Illinois to be weighed I will use that weight with documentation for this seed offer. Joseph

Hey Clutchhitter and MidWestGrower,I think this contest would be more fair if you set a fairly soon deadline for entry. With all your updates Joseph, it seems to me that anyone waiting until the last day or so would have unfair advantage on those who have already guessed. This seed set will be like gold to dedicated growers !

I'll call this Contest done at midnight USA Pacific time on Friday the 14 of Sept, 10 days from today. Till then I will not post anymore pics and not comment on or off line anywhere to anyone that could give est weight on Fiona away or to favor anyone. 10 days will go by fast! Clutchhitter if you disagree since this is your post please let us know. Good Thinking Dennis!

Hey Joseph, congratulations on having such a remarkable year thus far. I know we are all looking forward to seeing Fiona land at a GPC event in the coming weeks. A little confused why a damaged or diseased plant would prevent you from weighing at a GPC event? There should be GPC event pretty much every weekend from now till October. As long as the melon isn’t damage, you’re good to go. If for some reason, you weigh independantly I would highly recommend having a GPC official present to verify the process. World records don’t come easy, it’s with much attention, and dedication and you should celebrate the weighing with fellow growers.

9/4/2018 10:15:57 PM

jlindley

NE Arkansas

I agree with Todd, we all stive to grow the biggest melons possible. If you did take it somewhere besides a GPC event I would have a GPC representative present for the weighing and certification process so there's no controversy over the World record especially with a post about a damaged plant or melon. But if you feel she needs to go to a weigh off before Hamilton, I'll be at Republic, Mo the weekend before and it's GPC. Roberts family farm is GPC Sept 15th, not sure what else is close to you but those are some ideas

I 100% agree. It don’t come often and should be shared where others can enjoy, and to do it at a gpc event where it will be judge like everyone else’s with same Guidelines and rules. Wish you the best of luck the rest of the way.

Ice Man & the rest of you, great ideas. Consider this is all new to me. On exactly how everything can work out here as far as GPC officials, I didn't know how any of that would work if need be. Don't even know who my area GPC official is,lol. My daughter n I were talking about worse case options and yes another earlier GPC event would come 1st (Absolutely) before weighing at a non GPC place. Without going against not posting about how Fiona is doing before midnight the 14th I'll just say, all my melon plants are aging like everyone else's but are in great shape! How Frank Mudd, Chris Kent and you dedicated growers come out of things like this with any sanity left is far beyond me,lol. Thanks for the support!

The GPC works with Guinness. So if your melon can pass inspection at a GPC weigh off, that means your paperwork for Guinness will breeze thru with no glitches. If you go to the bp home page and click the weigh off link on the left side, it will take you to the gpc page which lists every weigh off from now until the end of October.
Its always a challenge getting a melon to one of the later weigh offs. Let the melon choose the weigh off and that takes the pressure off you. Good luck and I hope to see you at the scales!

There were times when he did give numbers. Not only the daily gains but also the est. weight. So you take the last known weight and add in the daily gains. You chart that then predict the rest. It was 32? a few weeks ago and doin 5-7 daily.
