Anyone think a new world record watermelon or world record melons be grown this year ? Joseph's melon, Fiona looks almost like a probability and I have been thinking all year this would be Frank's year to break the record. And there are others who cannot be written off. If I had to lay down a bet I would put my money on 2 growers breaking the 350.5 benchmark.

I think it could very well be broken this year but in this hobby anything can happen at any time no matter how good things are going especially when your dealing with bugs, disease, extreme heat, high humidity, heavy rain, and critters looking for food and water. I agree with Chris but I thought Chris would have broken the WR two or three times since the last time he broke it in 2013

It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll - ACDC. With all growers go through during the season, Boy don't we know it!

Like me some AC/DC too Midwest Grower. Have you seen that there is much bigger prize money at the Operation Pumpkin weigh in at Hamilton, Ohio? Extra week to grow also! They may have something even more for a world record too! If I may quote another great AC/DC song, Money Talks and grow'm big!

If and only 'IF' one of these melons is worthy of a scale I am considering a few different sites Nate. Thanks for the info. If I show up I'll be dressed like Angus Young! I'm 6' 1" so I'll have to get a tailor, lol.

Those melons aren't just big they are nearly perfect in all physical traits. Really nice looking melons! Every time you post an update in your diary I am excited to see how they are doing.

I think Spence might be including “orange” melons or pumpkins when he says that but he might know of a big one somewhere.

So that just may be a bit of southern giant watermelon trash talk. Lol. Can't wait to see what hits the scales and let the biggest melon win!

I see the WR mind games are well underway. Believe me, they can make you go crazy. Good luck to all the growers and enjoy the ride.

Joseph,if you can keep the melon ever so slowly growing for an extra week and be be eligible for bigger prize money at a more prestigious contest, why not ? And of course you want every ounce possible if yo are going to set a new record. Bottom line though is all about keeping Fiona growing as long as possible. That might ought to be the deciding factor as to where yo take Fiona. But on the other hand, you have 2 other melons that are growing even faster than Fiona right now, right ? So why not try to win the best 3 contests you can find ? What great fun choices you may be getting to make ! Do you think there is some chance of Mrs. Puff or Mr. Hankey ending up being your heaviest melon ? If only you can keep all 3 growing for as long as needed what a memorable season you are going to have.

Its a given, I plan on keepin all of them growin as long as I can but I'm not getting the wagon before the horse because as you well know TD there are a bunch of big time growers over me w/ way more experience still holdin their cards and holdin them close, lol. At this crazy point I'm not 100% sure where any of them will end up going. Still fun though! Mrs. Puff is out growing Mr. Hankey now quite a bit. Only time and the scales will tell. Nate's right this stuff will make you Bonkers, lol!

A 327 pounds estimate I believe makes Fiona the 3rd largest melon ever grown and closing fast on Frank's 330. Makes me dizzy to think about it growing for 40 or more days to come. Is 400 pounds possible ? I hope you have a live video feed at Fiona's weigh-off.

Looks like it will go a bit heavy. Don't worry about it. By the way, you bring Fiona to Hamilton and I'll cover your gas money both ways. Maybe more to come...

a bit off topic here but I just measured her this morning and even with the storms all night and cool temps she still put 4 lbs on since 5:30 pm yesterday and we picked another 93 lbs (bathroom scale)via 6 melons, of culls off her just a little while ago. If she does good I've got a lot of pre-register deadline info to look up on various sites. I did also go ahead and pre-register in the spring with guinness in case one of them would do good but I believe I put down Anamosa as the weigh site. Don't know how critical that is and if I can submit the results later from another site. I'm definitely in diamond pucker mode from here on out. Mr. Kent, special pics to come, lol.
