The 2018 growing season is fast approaching, so now's a great time to update everyone on the clubs status.
We are all still feeling the loss of Marv, so please keep the Mitchell family in your prayers. With Marvin's passing, their will be a few changes, but will continue to operate in the same fashion.
Andrew Vial with be taking over Marvin's position, handling membership, receiving club dues, and etc. He is working hard on getting everything switched over and getting the paypal account up and running. Website change and a email will go out soon with all the changes for 2018.

Bill Edwards will be retiring from his position once he finishes sending out seed packs for the 2018 members. A big shout out to Bill for all the work he has done for the GWG over the years.
Jeremy Lindley will begin to handle Bill's duty's once Bill retires, so at season end, all club and auction seeds will be mailed to Jeremy.
I will continue to handle, plaques, rosettes, and trophies, and will handle the club auctions(with a little help from others) during the winter.

New for 2018!
We want to start honoring our "GROWER OF THE YEAR" The grower with the highest 3 melon average(GPC weighed) will be crowned! Your input is needed for the prize... a jacket, maybe a trophy, or a watch, a plaque, we need your suggestions for the prize.

We have started a facebook page, "Giant Watermelon Growers" so if you're on Facebook, please join the group. This will be a fast and easy way to get notifications out, and a great way to add to the membership and help all those in our growing community.

Reminders:
Club dues are due by June 1st, $25, but for this year we are extending it to June 15th, to help with the change over.
World record pool is still active, $20, will this be the year it falls??

Good luck to all the growers this year,
GWG committee

I want to be the first to say that Andrew and Jeremy are awesome choices to fill these positions and lead our club and hobby to new heights. Both are great, dedicated growers that will offer any help or advice to any grower(believe me I have asked both many questions). Also with our hobby leaning more toward grafting they are both very knowledgeable and helpful with advice for anyone who is new to grafting. Any help with the club that I can offer either one of you or Todd I will all you have to do is ask. Congrats Andrew and Jeremy!!

I too, want to thank Bill Edwards for all he has done for this club and for the hobby of giant watermelon growing.
I also think that Jeremy and Andrew are fine choices to add to the board and will continue to grow this hobby in the future.
I too, am willing to help out in anyway I can.

Thank you Mr. Edwards for all you have done and I agree Andrew and the guy from Arkansas will do a great job serving the club. I love the top grower idea with top 3 melon weights. I think a jacket like gpc does with kin’s would be great that you could add patches to.

Also wanted to say thanks to Chris and Andrew for demonstrating their grafting techniques at the NC meeting. Sorry I didn't get to introduce myself guys, had another appt at 3. Once I get past my rookie year I'll be looking to get more involved.
