What would y’all consider planting in a different spot? Moving your plants over 10 feet or so from the previous season or plowing up an entirely new field?

I would guess the proper answer would be a new patch.
I don't have that luxury,so I just move to the other side of my garden.

I have 3 melon spots that can grow 4 plants. I take 1 out of the rotation each year and grow the garden there. So I grow in the same spot 2 years then off a year.

Crop rotation is good, no matter what you grow. Breaks up soil disease problems. Its true for production agriculture, extreme gardening, or even the backyard average garden.

Rotation will eliminate and reduce a lot of disease problems. I think commercial melon growers try to do a five year interval between rotations. It takes a long time to get the fusarium out of the soil.
