Last year I planted in mid-April. Plant was fine but had issues with fruit set because of the heat( I live in Marietta ,Ga). My target is the weighoff at Allardt the first weekend of October. Do i plant earlier to get a pumpkin established as opposed to what I did last year. Will a larger fruit tolerate the heat better and make it until my target date. Sorry if this a dumb question but I'm still figuring things out as I go. Thanks for the help

105 day old pumpkin on October 3rd means you pollinate June 20th 60 days of plant growth puts you starting April 20th, plenty of time to put down good root growth to drink up all that water. You're in the ball bark with your timing, not sure a 7-10day shift will make a huge difference. Sometimes we are at the mercy of the weather and a hot dry spell around dap ten of pumpkin growth could certainly abort a fruit. Shade cloth and misting are probably your best friend as far south as you are. Best of luck.
