Was the 2145 Mcmullen the first seed to sell for $1000 at auction?

My head is foggy on this and going out on a limb. I don't know the price(s), but the 1810 Stevens was a very low seed count and went for a lot (hard to remember 13 years ago).

If you mean $1000 or more I believe it was 1810.5 Stevens sold for $1625.

Yep, that’s correct. It was the 1810 Steven’s.

1810.5 was the first to sell for over $1000. Highest bid ever though is $1800 on a 2009 wallace, and I took a screenshot of it.

the $1800 high bid was eclipsed later in the UK by a European grower. The question was asked at the auction so he could make a higher bid but I don't remember the details

The seed company Thompson & Morgan bought a 2096.6 Meier seed for £1,250 (GBP) which might have been a little more than $1800 (USD) at the time.

Before any $1000 seed, my first memory of a seed going high was the 846 Calai in Niagara. And a very generous grower who bought it at the time handed it over to Howard Dill. Think he was from Alberta if my memory holds true?

Hey Danny, I believe I remember seeing that too sitting back and absorbing things. I was kind of in awe. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

The buyer of the 1810 Stevens seed made 4 payments on it. I believe he was a grower in missouri. Never heard if it even sprouted.
