So, I have several sets of heating cables. All are the ones with the skinny orange wires like you can get on Amazon. I was thinking of trying out some deicing cables this year since there more substantial and I here many say they're better to use. Thing is, all of them seem to be self regulating in a Temp. zone that's to cold. No problem, I can cut out the inline thermostat and use my own. Before I buy one and cut into it: Does anyone know if it as simple as just cutting the thermostat out and putting a new plug on. Are the wiring like a 12/3 or something or is there some skinny little wire filament inside like the Amazon cables? If you're using deicers maybe you can help. As a side note, they're much less expensive than the typical soil heating cables.

Unless you are a brain surgeon, I suggest you do not cut, splice or mess with the wiring.

Buy the deicing without the thermostat. The cables will not get too hot.

I use a heat mat thermostat to regulate the temp of the deicing cables.

Tom, so basically Mohamed Sadiq is the only pumpkin grower who has any business cutting apart a heating cable…because he is the only pumpkin grower who actually is a brain surgeon?

Just sounded like a common sense warning to me, like 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' - Sorry, Garwolf, but if you come at me with a dentist's drill, even if disconnected, I WILL run! eg
