Trying to compile a list of 2020 HD winners on the Howard Dill Growing Orange message board. If you had an HD winner or know of one from 2020 I would appreciate if you would post it under my post in that message board.

When weigh-off sites submit results to big pumpkins, there is a check box available to mark the HD winner. I don't understand why this data is not published, either on the results page or collated in some other way?

You are preaching to the choir Curtis. I thought it was posted somewhere that the GPC was going to denote HD winners on the result page this year. My conspiracy theory is that the deep state is scared that HD winners might garner more glory than the growers of ugly pumpkins if the HD awards were an organized and recognized category.

Right now, you know who the top HD growers are, but there is no recorded history as to their accomplishments. This keeps HD winners from garnering anything other than local attention. Seriously, can anyone point to a record keeping page that shows yearly or career HD wins?

Anyone who follows seed auctions knows that HD winner seeds receive a lot action. At some point, you just have to assume that it is intentional to keep HD winners hidden.

I don't think it is a conspiracy. LMAO But look which pumpkins get the most attention from the spectators at the weigh offs, the orange well proportioned pumpkins get the most photographs taken. Most HD growers do so because they are limited in resources in some way as that they will never get into the big league weights, but can grow a really large, very good looking pumpkin. I think that the talked about reality show would get better ratings by including HD growers. Most people are not nearly as impressed with the mammoth "blob" pumpkins as they are with the huge HD contenders. The HD growers have, on the most part, equal growing skills, just not the resources. As I research different pumpkins, if the picture has a HD award in it, I try to take note of the fact. How long has the HD award been going anyhow? How far back would a person have to research in an attempt to compile and maintain a HD database?

Up until a couple years ago there was a Howard Dill award dairy page. Didn’t have them all bot a lot of the. Most all had pictures with them. I have lists of what HD winners I could find back to 2012 I think. Also started a top 20 HD winners by weight list last year. Haven’t updated it yet to include this years. Whoever did the HD diary page it was great.

But it would be nice to have an offical HD winners list every year from the GPC. It would be meaningful recognition to the winners. Plus, having the GPC produce a list would create a legacy and help settle bar bets. I am betting that Norm has the most HD wins, but who knows? And what is the all-time HD record that new growers could shoot for.

I still think the deep state is somehow inovlved. :-)

I placed 2nd 4 times and the year I did not want to try for HDAW, my best plant ended up being orange genetic. I think it would be nice to be able to track who won a HDAW and off of what seed.
